BlackFlare is on Setapp

If you run Claude Code or Codex all day, there’s a fair chance you already pay for a Setapp membership — and would rather add one more app to it than manage one more license key.
As of today, you can. BlackFlare is available on Setapp.
Same app, one membership
It’s the same BlackFlare, in the same priority order: keep your Mac awake while a session runs — even with the lid closed, once you turn that on — ping you the moment a task finishes or needs you, on your Mac, Telegram, or Slack, track your plan usage from the menu bar, and switch model, permission mode, and effort without touching a config file by hand.
What the Setapp edition does differently is only what you’d expect:
- Every feature is unlocked by your membership. There is no license key to paste and no purchase prompt anywhere in the app.
- Updates arrive through Setapp. The Setapp build carries no updater of its
own, so it never checks
dl.blackflare.dev— one fewer request leaving your Mac. - Release notes show up after an update, drawn from the changelog.
Your sessions, usage, and settings still stay on your Mac: no accounts, no analytics, no telemetry of our own. The one thing the Setapp build reports is that you used the app, to the Setapp client on your Mac — that is how Setapp pays its developers, and it is the same for every app in the membership.
The direct download isn’t going anywhere
If you’re not a Setapp member, nothing changes. BlackFlare is still a free download, desktop notifications are free for your first seven days, and a one-time $8 license unlocks the full premium set on up to three Macs — one-time, not a subscription. Pricing has the comparison.
Already on Setapp? Open the Setapp app, search for BlackFlare, and install. Getting started covers the two permissions and the first notification from there.
Requires macOS 13 or later. Universal (Apple silicon & Intel).
